ROY G BIV Rainbow Boot Camp

In the Art Room, the TK students learned all about the colors of the rainbow and the ROY G BIV order. We have been painting and experimenting with all things rainbow.  We used markers on color diffusing paper, painted with tempera, watercolor and foam paints, mixed colors to make more colors, wove rainbows and collaged rainbow creations. These were on display in school and then the Greenwich Library. We even learned a song about our friend Roy G. Biv. They Might Be Giants - Roy G Biv (official TMBG video)

Ceramic Greek Vases

This year the 5th graders made ceramic vases for their Greek Symposium. We learned about Greek Art, especially the vases and the stories they told on the facade. Each student traced a vase shape onto a red clay slab. They added narrative images and typical Greek patterns. They attached their vase shape to a small slab vase and base. After their pieces were fired, they were able to add details using neutral colored glazes.

CANtastic Art

The 7th graders turned “trash into treasure” by transforming smashed soda cans into unique works of art. We looked at examples of artists’ work from smashed cans for inspiration.  The students chose a can and like Michelangelo staring at his marble from all angles, they got inspiration to create. They used acrylic paint, sharpies and collage supplies to make these whimsical pieces.
