In the Art Studio, the Kindergarteners traced and cut fish shapes
from clay slabs, and then drew patterns on them. They created bases by
attaching a ring to the bottom using scoring and slipping. After the fish were
fired in our kiln, the students glazed them, learning the difference between glaze
and paint. As inspiration, we read The Rainbow Fish and Fish is Fish, two
classic fish tales.

Kindergarten Fish Mobiles
The Kindergarteners read The Rainbow Fish and other fishy books. Inspired by the beautiful illustrations, the students made their own two sided fish. Colors and patterns were added with craypas and watercolor resist. Finally the fish were stuffed and strung with beaded lanyard.

The Fifth graders had the choice of printing with a real fish or rubber molded fish. They brushed ink onto the fish and printed onto muslin. Then they glued their fish onto a watercolored background.
